BTN - Bhutanese Ngultrum
The Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN) is the official currency of the Kingdom of Bhutan, a landlocked country in the Eastern Himalayas. Introduced in 1974, the Ngultrum replaced the Indian Rupee as the legal tender, although the Indian Rupee is still accepted in Bhutan. The currency is issued by the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan, the country's central bank.
The Ngultrum is subdivided into 100 chhertum, although chhertum coins are rarely used in everyday transactions. The currency is pegged at par with the Indian Rupee, meaning 1 BTN is equal to 1 INR. This peg ensures economic stability and facilitates trade and travel between Bhutan and India, its largest trading partner.
Banknotes are available in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 500 Ngultrum, with a 1000 Ngultrum note introduced later. Coins are issued in denominations of 20, 25, 50 chhertum, and 1 Ngultrum. The currency features Bhutanese symbols, including the national emblem and images of the royal family, reflecting the country's rich cultural heritage.
